PORTUGUESE MILITAR VALUE MEDAL

The Medal of Military Valor is a military medal Portuguese established on October 2, 1863, by decree of the Secretary of State for War, initially with two degrees (gold and silver) and today with three grades (gold, silver and copper), "intended to reward extraordinary heroic acts of selflessness and bravery or of great moral courage and exceptional decision-making capacity, whether campaigning or in time of peace, but always in circumstances where there is proven or probable risk to life " (Decree-Law No. 316/2002 of 27 December).
Soon after the Tower and Sword, the Medal of Military Valour is the second in order of precedence of the Portuguese military decorations.
